I need a way to insert heading 2 on the odd numbered pages.
The use of a new section for each new heading 2 is not an real
option, as it introduce page breaks and problems, when I add
or remove text within a heading 2 (section). You offer all kind of
macros (file/time, etc.) but no access to the current heading
1,2 or 3. The information is there, because the TOC at the
left side shows all headings.

Headings in the header
Re: Headings in the header
You have to check the 'Use Facing Pages' box to get odd and even headers:

Re: Headings in the header
Hi, Esser,
Sorry, I can’t focus on your troubles. In the subject you say “Headings in the header”, so it looks like, I suppose, you are trying to put a heading (which is what you put at the start of a chapter, like Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.) in a header (which is the line that repeats on the top of each page). Can you be more specific? An example might be of help.
Greetings, Henry.

Re: Headings in the header
Sorry if unclear. Try to explain with a short example:
2 headings. Text in between:
1. Into
(text)...
1.1 First example
(text)...
1.2 Second Example
(text)...
1.3 Lesson learned
(text)...
2. Next // page break: section changes
...
On odd pages I need heading titles 1.1, 1.2, ... in the header
On even pages I need heading titles 1 , 2, ... in the header.
header examples:
On page 5 and 7
1.1 First example ..... page number
On page 9 (if the heading has changed on page 8 or 9 to 1.2)
1.2 Second Example
By the way: This is a normal way for headers in books!
Even pages are no problem. They always start in an new section
as they begin with a new page. So I change the section and
change the titles in the header manually for the whole section.
But for headings 2 I cannot change the section, because they
insert page breaks and changing the title manually is a lot of
work. If I insert some text may be on page 7 an this causes a
page break the whole work has to be done over and over again
for the rest of the 300 pages.

Re: Headings in the header
But you can insert a section break "same page". Then there will be no page break.
If you want the text of the header to change, you will need to insert a section break in NWP. As far as I know there is no other way.
Anyhow to recapitulate: what you are looking for is the ability to insert automatic text in a header. But the only automatic text that NWP allows are page and section numbers. Having said that, if your document looks like your example you may be able to get something like what you want, if you do it like this:
1. Intro <Section 1>
[Even Header "1."; Odd Header "1.{Section Number}]
1.1. Example
<Section Break: Same page>
1.2 Example
<Section Break: Same page>
1.3 Example
<Section Break: Next page, RESTART Section Numbering>
2. Content
[Even Header "2."; Odd Header "2.{Section Number}]
2.1. Example
<Section Break: Same page>
2.2 Example
etc.
Note that essentially this is using the section numbering to number your "examples". It's a bit of a hack, but it will cut down on the number of times you need to redefine the headers.
Overall for the kind of layout you are looking for you should really try using a book tool/DTP program.

Re: Headings in the header

<Section Break: Same page>

Maybe your are write and Nisus isn't the right tool, although everythings else seemed ok.

Re: Headings in the header
Yes, Section Break (Same Page) works as if it were Section Break (Next Page) for a page having a footnote. I hope this oddity will be fixed in a near future.Esser wrote:It always insert a page break.
Re: Headings in the header
May be a last remark to a official nisus mebmer like Martin:
It seems that Mellel has a good implementation called:
Auto-titles (headings)
But I don't know if I could switch between Nisus and Mellel back and forth
without difficulties, as mellel has no index.

Re: Headings in the header
Well, there you go. I guess people like me, who never use footnotes, don't know about these thingsKino wrote:Yes, Section Break (Same Page) works as if it were Section Break (Next Page) for a page having a footnote.
