This is probably silly.
In Leopard, the default rtf program was textedit but when I saved Nisus Writer Pro files, it "knew" they were Nisus files and when I double clicked on them, Nisus would open them. Non-nisus rtf files would open in textedit. I liked that.
So I (clean) installed Snow Leopard. Reinstalled Nisus. And now double clicking Nisus-generated files open in textedit. I know I can change this behavior in finder but I I'm guessing all rtf files will open with Nisus if I do. I was just curious if I'm alone in this (do I have a goofy install). Old files created before SL also default to textedit...
I found out about the public beta 2 and I have that now.
Thanks.

Re: snow leopard rtf default program
http://nisus.com/pro/snowleopard.phpPrior to Snow Leopard, files that were created in Nisus Writer would always reopen in Nisus Writer. Apple has changed this behavior in 10.6. Now all RTF files, regardless of where they were created, will open in a single application. By default the Finder is configured to use TextEdit. This behavior can be changed in a few easy steps:
1. In the Finder, single click a Nisus Writer RTF file.
2. Choose the menu File > Get Info.
3. Under "Open with" choose Nisus Writer.
4. Click the "Change All" button.
5. All RTF files will now be opened by Nisus Writer.
Re: snow leopard rtf default program
Thanks, I already know how to change ALL rtf files to open with NWP, I liked the old behavior of NWP generated files opening with NWP, but other rtf files opening with textedit.
Then I just saw an article a few minutes ago about how Snow Leopard changed this behavior. When I posted my original message, I though there was something wrong with NWP or SL.
Thanks

Re: snow leopard rtf default program
As this is going to cause problems for lots of people it's probably useful to point everyone at a good explanation of what has changed in Snow Leopard.
Why Apple, why do you do this sort of thing to us? Would it help if I sacrificed a goat or something?

Re: snow leopard rtf default program
It is baffling why Apple made this decision. Sure it simplifies things for novice users (and those with simpler workflows), but they could have at least added a checkbox in the Finder preferences for advanced users. At least Snow Leopard finally lets users change a file's extension without clicking through a confirmation dialog. Maybe one day we'll have an option to once again respect creator codes.
Re: snow leopard rtf default program
Perhaps Martin would not like this kind of haxy (?) but you can get back the old behaviour using a SIMBL plugin for newly saved documents at least.counterpt wrote:I liked the old behavior of NWP generated files opening with NWP, but other rtf files opening with textedit.
1. Download the lates version of SIMBL and install it if you have not.
http://www.culater.net/software/SIMBL/SIMBL.php
2. Download (hit ダウンロード in the page below) the lates version of spe (Save Panel Extender) and put SavePanelExtender.bundle under /Users/you/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/.
http://sites.google.com/site/stakeannex ... /downloads
When you save a new document for the first time or when you execute Save As command (e.g. save as the same), you will be able to set the default app for this document to the host application and, optinally, add an OpenMeta (r48) tag to it (don’t ask me about it; I don’t know).
The plugin works with Cocoa applications using the standard Save As sheet.
Re: snow leopard rtf default program
The latest version (2.16) of Jedit X has the option "Save with Jedit X document icon" in its "Save" Preferences.
When this option is checked, all documents saved with Jedit X open with Jedit X when double-clicked, even on Snow Leopard.

Re: snow leopard rtf default program
I am not a software engineer, but maybe they used the different method described here (UTI)?

Jedit X developer modified the CFBundleDocumentTypes definitions to UTI compatible according to release notes.

Maybe there is a solution to this not small problem:
