Dixio? Who’s that?
Dixio? Who’s that?
A few days ago I tried a conversion tool (I think I remember it was about conversions because it spoke Spanish) called DixioDesktop. It lasted a couple of hours on my computer then, for lack of an uninstaller, I spent some time raking the system folder free of all the garbage it had sown. Now, when I click on the character/paragraph menulet in the info bar I get this (so far harmless) menu

Obviously you have not removed “all the garbage it had sown”. Presumably something in /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ or in /Users/you/Library/Contextual Menu Items/. You’d better use fseventer* to see what is put in your system when you run an installer and/or run an application for the first time.

Did I say conversion? No, it was about translations, not conversions. Translations. If that helps.
It’s surprising how these apps, or services, can lurk within your system and show up in creative ways. Kind of amusing at times. You click on a thing and make an oval of your mouth and scratch the back of your head and your the stone age of IT. And you are amazed at the involuntary cruelty. And a couple of seconds later your are angry at them because they don’t disappear as if by the same magic that made them pop up. They seem inbred for good. I think they must have developed a special relationship with your chips. It’s like guerrilla thinking.

Re: Dixio? Who’s that?
Yes, it was /Library/Contextual Menus Items/. With an odd name.
I happened to write my second post while you were jotting down your answer.
Thanks, Henry.

This is an invaluable tool for monitoring new applications to see what they're up to. Of course, it can be a bit confusing for novices, because lots of normal file operations (like synchronizing application preferences) use a variety of temporary files with scary looking names.Kino wrote:You’d better use fseventer* to see what is put in your system when you run an installer and/or run an application for the first time.
