I'm curious why (and probably responsible no doubt) when I open a default document in NW Pro, the Header/Footer palette shows "Different Headers" "Different Footers" checked off by default--and grayed out. I don't seem to be able to affect a change here. So if for instance I drop a multipage Word .doc file onto NW Pro, it comes up with a default of alternating 'even/odd' page headers. Don't know what the rest of the world does, but I almost never have a need for alternating even/odd page headers and I'm curious how to go about getting those blasted and grayed out boxes unchecked.
Thanks for any advice,
gf

Howdy. You have to change the Nisus New File (Default template).
Nisus Writer Pro > Preferences > New File > Advanced > Edit Nisus New File When it is open, then click on the Palette for Writing Tools. Open the Section palette and make your changes. When done, be sure to save that Nisus New File.dot.

Re: Eliminating Alternating Headers & Footers
There's actually two issues here. The first is your "Nisus New File", which controls how new documents are formatted. As exegete says, you can configure that template in your Nisus Writer preferences. However, you said:
Your second issue:
In any case, if you have a document where even/odd headers are turned on, and you don't want that, just use the Sections palette and uncheck the "Use Facing Pages" option.
The "Different Headers/Footers" option is shown checkmarked because the first section of your document logically must have different headers/footers- there is no prior section where the header/footer content could possibly come from. So even if you open up the Nisus New File, there is no way you could change that setting. Hopefully I've made it clear why that's not a limitation.Icemancometh wrote:I'm curious why (and probably responsible no doubt) when I open a default document in NW Pro, the Header/Footer palette shows "Different Headers" "Different Footers" checked off by default--and grayed out. Your second issue:
This has nothing to do with your Nisus New File. When you import an existing document your Nisus New File is not consulted. The document opened with even/odd headers because that's the way it was saved in the ".doc" file. Unless you suspect an issue with our file importer- let me know.So if for instance I drop a multipage Word .doc file onto NW Pro, it comes up with a default of alternating 'even/odd' page headers.
