Yes, this is the point: not for the Mac.

By the way: may I add an other question?
Does Nisus Writer 6.4 work on OS 10.6?

Nisus Writer 6.4 (and all other versions up to the last 6.5) does not work on 10.6 because there is no Classic support. The last version of Mac OS X on which you can run Nisus Writer 5 to 6 is 10.4 (Tiger). After Tiger, Classic support was dropped.

Do you mean ʿ and ʾ? I don't know if and how those characters can be entered using U.S. Extended keyboard layout. If cannot, try this one.

OK I will try it. At present I have all charaters I need on US Extended and I created a list as a document which I open while typing a text in Nisus. If the transcription is needed I just copy the charakter from the list into the document in question.

Thank you

Hi Orientalist -

copying from a list is how the windowed crowd does the job - get Ukelele from SIL and add what's missing to the keyboard of your choice. It's easily done - once and for all time - let it rock!

There is a manual & tutorial -

but for a quicky - just Duplicate the installed U.S.Extended and Open this duplicate in Ukelele then. Select a key you want to change with DoubleClicking - a separate window opens a textfield with the character you want to change selected. Just overwrite this character with the one you need - you can use Character Viewer for this - that's it: OK and Save your modified keyboard under a different name. Copy your new Keyboard to User/Library/Keyboard Layouts and activate it in System Preferences/Language & Text/Input Sources and you are done...

Work on Duplicates only!

You'll want to download the ".zip" archive that Elbrecht so kindly made for you. Then double-click that in the Finder to expand/decompress the files (you should see a folder call "Orientalist"). Take the two files from inside that folder and move them to the following folder in your home folder:

~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/

Now open up your OSX system preferences, switch to the "Languages & Text" pane (used to be called "International"), and then turn on the "Orientalist" keyboard layout (the one Elbrecht made for you, and that you copied to your home folder).

Thank you very much: I have done it some minutes ago and I hope, that I understood it.

I still can not save Arabic texts written on Nisus 6.5 (on PowerBook G4) as Word or OpenOffice or PDF or other.

TWIMC -

it looks like that's what Orientalist was asking for - "Oriental SIR"

http://www.elbrecht.com/OrientalistSIR.zip

un-zip and install the keyboard as posted before.

BTW I prefer dead keys, but...
