How to make separate lists in separate sections - help!

Post by nev »

Can somebody help me?

I'm trying to do what I suspect is a very simple thing with Nisus Writer Pro, but I just can't seem to see how to do it!

I want to create a document with three sections.

Each section should have its own header.

Also, I'd like the contents of each section to be comprised of an automatic numerical list, that's prefixed with its own number. To explain, it would look like this:

My Section One Header
1.1 First list item in Section One.
1.2 Some more text in second list item in Section One.
1.3 And yet more text in third list item in Section One.

My Section Two Header
2.1 Text in list item in Section Two.
2.2 Some more text in list item in Section Two.
2.3 And yet more text in list item in Section Two.
2.4 Another list item in Section Two.

My Section Three Header
3.1 First list item in Section Three.
3.2 Another list item in Section Three.
3.3 More text in a list item in Section Three.

In each section (created by inserting a section break-next page?), the lists should automatically accrue by pressing the return key.

In your example text, your section headings don't have any list items, which turns out to be difficult, because it means there is no counting occurring for the primary list level (ie: section numbers). How do you feel about having list items for your section headings as well? eg:
1. My Section One Header
1.1 First list item in Section One.
1.2 Some more text in second list item in Section One.
1.3 And yet more text in third list item in Section One.

2. My Section Two Header
2.1 Text in list item in Section Two.
2.2 Some more text in list item in Section Two.
2.3 And yet more text in list item in Section Two.
2.4 Another list item in Section Two.
That is relatively easy to accomplish. First, create a new list style via the menu Format > Lists > New List Style. Make sure to set the kind to "Tiered" and turn on the option "Continue throughout document". Then apply this list style to both your section headings and the section text/items. You'll want to increase the list level/indent for sub-items (eg: "3.2"). Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! I knew it would be simple! And you just press tab to make the extra indent for sub-items.

Thank you very much!

When section headings don't have any list items, the 'Before Text' box can have '1.' in one list style, '2.' in next list style, etc. like in this example file.
