pleading for help with cudtom outline and list styles

Post by shadeofgrey »

Greetings,

I've done my best to scour available documentation, and attempted to figure things out on my own over and over and over again, but I cant for the life of me figure out how to create custom list and outline styles that function properly. If those of you who have successfully bent them to your will would take the time to reply to this post and teach me whatever it is Im missing I would be ever so grateful. I bought Nisus because the general consensus among novel writers was that it does what Word was meant to do, only it does all those things beautifully and with great finesse, and I desperately want to get this figured out - because figuring out custom number and paragraph styles in Word 2011 for Mac is - for the moment impossible because all the books that are supposed to teach how to do it properly have yet to be published and cost a bloody fortune.

I use Scrivener for all the heavy lifting of writing my chapters and such, but it was never designed to include a full outlining solution so there's a gaping hole in my current workflow that I'm sure Nisus has the power to fill -- I simply cant get it worked out right on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there's someone out there that would be willing to take me under their wing and show me the ropes or knows of somewhere that teaches how to do this in an online tutorial I'd appreciate any and all links because as I said I've scoured the documentation with no success whatsoever.

Thank you in Advance for any and all Help generously rendered to a SERIOUSLY FRUSTRATED user.

Most Respectfully and Sincerely,
Christopher Ryan

Hiya Shades

Go to the Templates forum and look at the thread Outline/Report. You might find some help there.

Yes, Geoff's outlining template/instructions may help you. Basically it boils down to applying the "Headings" list style to each of your heading paragraph styles (eg: Heading 1, Heading 2, and so on).

Is there a particular task you're having trouble with? I'm happy to work through any issues you have.
