printing bullet lists

Post by davidJbeck »

When I print out documents or save them as PDF, list bullets and automatic text are blacked out or shaded. I have fiddled around with the Preferences for the colours of automatic text and everything looks okay on the screen, but the output is still bad. Some (maybe all) of these documents were created in Word. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

Hrm, that's very strange that they would appear properly on screen, but not in print. Could you possibly send us an example file? Using the menu Help > Send Feedback would be best, thank you.

Same issue with me, but just on some files created by Word. I suppose it’s Word for Windows, and I can’t tell which version. I get black rectangles on conversion to pdf. I can kill the issue with a customized list, but I seldom do it—all I need is readability.
I hope this will help.

Greetings, Henry.

In communicating with David privately, his file turned out to have various background colors applied to the list style's levels. So the coloring was accurate, even if unwanted. Here's how to fix it:

1. Switch to the Stylesheet (eg: use the menu View > Style Sheet).
2. From the list of styles on the left, select the appropriate list style.
3. From the style preview on the right, select all the levels in the style preview.
4. Remove the coloring (eg: use the menu Format > Background Color > Remove Background Color Attribute).

Henry: perhaps your file has the same kind of unwanted coloring applied to your list styles. If you think it's an import/conversion problem, could you send me an original file from Word, before NWP has opened/saved it? Thanks!

Thanks for the file Henry. This does appear to be an importer bug- I'll file it as something to fix. Thank you for your help.

In the meantime, I think removing the background color from the list style levels (via the stylesheet) is the most efficient workaround.

Thanks, Martin. I had come to the same deduction. They are unimportant files. They live a short life. I can live with them nicely. I was just curious to know where they came from. Thanks anyway.

Henry.
