Can't open a doc file since upgrading to LIon

Upgraded to Lion yesterday and just tried to open a .doc file - no go: "You can't open the application soffice.bin because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Anyone???

That is because you are using the version of NWP with PPC import filters which require Rosetta.

You should use the version with Intel importer which only runs on Intel machines.

Hamid is right, you're seeing that warning because of the PPC importers. However, since you're using Lion, I'd strongly recommend you use the NWP 2.0.1 beta that addresses other Lion compatibility issues.

You don't have to pay anything.

If you're a Pro 2.x user, version 2.0.1 will be free (and the beta doesn't require a different license key).

If you're a Pro 1.x user, we will have a Pro 1.4.2 available sometime soon that addresses Lion compatibility. In the meantime, you can download the Intel version of Pro 1.4.1. That will open your documents on Lion just fine.

NWP 1.4.1 here is Universal:

That download won't actually do the trick, because although Nisus Writer itself is universal (Intel + PPC), the importer included with the default Pro 1.4.1 download is PPC only. The reason for that is because the importer is huge (over 250MB), and including two copies with every NWP would be onerous. We chose PPC as the default because at the time there was no Lion, and Rosetta came standard on every Mac, so PPC machines and Intel machines could both use that PPC importer.

For users who chose not to purchase Pro 2.0, and are using Pro 1.4.1 on Lion, we now have a free update to Pro 1.4.2, which fixes Lion incompatibilities.
