Hi guys,
I just upgraded from 1.4 to 2.01 via the Mac App store. as i save new files, it seems that the ending is being changed from ".rtf" to ".public". Very weird. Is anyone else experiencing this or have an idea what it might be?
John

Re: My nisus documents are being marked with .public
Hi John, that is odd and we've not had any other reports of that problem. I just tested it out and wasn't able to observe the problem. Do all file formats produce the unwanted ".public" extension? For example, what happens if you save as ".doc"? Also, is the file saved as "name.public" or "name.rtf.public"?
A few other questions: what version of OSX are you using? And are you running NWP using a non-English interface?
Hopefully we can get this figured out for you.

Re: My nisus documents are being marked with .public
thanks for your offer to help martin.
i run osx 10.7.2 on a MacBook (late 2008 with core duo 2 and 4 gb ram)
i have only noticed the problem on nisus pro (as this is program i primarily run for writing).
i have not noticed the problem with other saves. i have done a search with spotlight and it is only nisus pro items which are affected.
its saved as name.public
and sometimes name.public.public when i have resaved.
i have saved to .doc, .rtf, and .rtfd, and the compressed version. i saved one file back to back to a different format. in every case, a '.public' was added to the end. so after three saves, the file was: name.public.public.public
i have renamed all the .public to .rtf for now.
wondering if it could be a hack/virus/intrusion? etc. any idea?
thanks in advance, john

I don't think there's any kind of hack or intrusion you need to worry about. But it's definitely strange, and I don't know the cause of the issue. Extensions in the save panel are basically handled by OSX itself.
Thanks for the information. One last question: inside Nisus Writer, are you using the English interface? Or do the menus/buttons/etc appear in a different language?

I have exactly the same problem. Every time I save a file, ".public" is added to it. Has a solution been found to this yet?

There isn't any solution that I'm aware of, but the conversation didn't continue past what has been posted here. One thing that might be useful to try: rebuild the OSX launch services database. That's a component of OSX that handles file associations, extensions, and that kind of thing.
