Intermediate Face Font

Post by Tiberiade »

Hello,

I am having trouble with a functionality of Nisus (I have the 2.0.2 version).
I love the font Myriad Pro, but I don't like it in bold, only in semibold. What happens is that I would like to configure my template so that every time I type CMD+B, I get my text in Myriad Pro Semibold. When I configure it, it works.
However, when I quit Nisus and then relaunch it and type CMD+B, I get the text in Myriad Pro Bold, and not Semibold.

Is there a way to fix that?

Thanks!

I think you’re up against a SYSTEM short cut here, Emmanuel. What about compromising? Set command-s-b for semi-bold? You could also set up a character style with a keyboard short-cut, but not command-b, I think.

Cheers, geoff

That won't work neither… Try it: configure CMD+S+B, it will work. Then close Nisus and reopen it, it will be in bold…

Hi, Emmanuel.

Are you using styles? If so, and if Myriad Pro is used in a style, you can assign a shortcut to it. Create a style and assign Myriad Pro semibold to it. When in style sheet view, select the style and set a shortcut in the Shortcut box, in the lower left corner.
If, on the other hand, you are trying to set a shortcut for semibold, which is a typeface peculiar to Myriad Pro, I fear there is no way to do that. Command-B is a system-wide shortcut that toggles between normal and bold, not semibold or other, though the name is similar. I think NWP relies on Cocoa for this.
Surely Martin could pinpoint the matter better than I.

Bye, Henry.

Yes, I am using styles. And it won't work after I have closed Nisus. Try it please…

I might be wrong, but I think there is a bug. I am going to report it…

I confirm. Myriad Pro semibold triggers bold upon close/reopen. Not so with New Baskerville, as far as I have experimented. I have an old Bitstream version of New Baskerville, with postscript name NewBaskervilleITCbyBT. Now, New Baskerville is TrueType while Myriad Pro is OpenType PostScript. This might be a clue, perhaps.

Score it out. NWP behaves with Baskerville (not New Baskerville, my fault) as with Myriad Pro.

I just tried to reproduce this problem, but no luck. I tried both Myriad Pro and Baskerville, and they both kept their semibold and bold faces intact after saving and reopening a file.

Emmanuel sent in a feedback report, so I know he's using OSX 10.7 (and NWP 2.0.2), but what version of OSX are you using Henry? Could either of you please post (or send in) a small sample file that shows the reversion? The details/configuration of the file are unlikely to be important, but one never knows.

I wasn't able to test with New Baskerville, as I don't have a copy of that font.

@Martin: yes, they're going to keep their semibold and bold faces intact, this is not exactly the issue.
Try to use the style after closing and reopening Nisus. The text you're applying the style to should be bold and not semibold…

Aha, I see, sorry for my misunderstanding. Thanks for the additional explanation (and the file you sent privately). I'll make sure we get this fixed.

I’m using OS 10.6.8, if that helps.

So long, Henry.
