Pictures move around

The subject says it.

I insert a picture in the text, having it stay with the paragraph. It does that, but if I add several more pictures they, still with the paragraph, move here and there, sometimes partly outside the margin, or overlappping text.

How can I anchor them in exact spots?

I should have said "still with the paragraphs" (plural).

Pictures should stay where you anchor them; or at least, should remain in the same position relative to the anchoring paragraph, if that's the option you chose. From your description it sounds like perhaps the pictures are moving erratically- have I understood correctly? If so, having a sample document, and directions on how to reproduce the erratic positioning would be very helpful.
