All my template files have the .dot extension. However, some have what looks like a different icon in the finder window than others. In fact, when I do a "sort by kind" search, the .dot templates with a funny icon appear at the top, the others -- which look like ordinary .rtf or .doc files, appear along with the word processing files. I wouldn't so much care, but the ones that don't have the funny looking icon don't function in quite the same way.
Help? Thanks
Some .dot files are different from others

Re: Some .dot files are different from others
This could be a problem with the Finder. You might try:
1. Resetting which application the Finder associates with the files, eg:
1a. Select a problem file in the Finder.
1b. Use the menu File > Get Info.
1c. Under the "open with" area, make sure the proper application has been selected (eg: Nisus Writer, Word, etc)
1d. Click the "Change All" button.
2. Rebuild the OSX Launch Services database.
It's possible that there's something else going on here. Do you have file extensions hidden in the Finder? Maybe the files with the odd icon actually have a different hidden extension?
Let us know how things go.
