Feature idea

Post by phspaelti »

Currently Nisus allows really easy assignment of keyboard shortcuts to styles. I was wondering if something similar for macros could be added as well. One idea is that this might be achieved through the Document Manager. First the Document manager could be made to allow easy assignment of keyboard shortcuts and then the macro folder could be added to the standard collection of folders.

Hi, Philip.

Maybe I misunderstood, but you can set a shortcut to start a macro. Go to Preferences > Menu Keys > Macro.

Greetings, Henry.

Hello Henry,
yes of course I know that. But I'm tired of navigating the preference dialog. :) I was thinking of something more convenient, along the lines of the setting of shortcuts in the style view.

Am I misunderstanding something? Yes, to set the shortcut needs a visit to the Preferences window, but that's only once. To use it, you just hit the shortcut-keys.

I'm doing this. I've set Control-S, the standard Save menu shortcut, to actually go to a macro which was kindly suggested by Hamid in this Forum, which Saves my file whether or not the Find/Replace window is actually the front-most.

It works brilliantly! :)

Well, that's because you have only one macro :P I have a lot of macros, and I write more all the time. Many I use only for a short period of time, so digging through those 3 layers of submenus in the Preference dialog is a drag.

But I wasn't just thinking about macros. Just a short while ago someone was talking about keyboard access to files, and Martin suggested using the Document Manager. So if the Document Manager--which the true Nisus user always has open :) --had easy keyboard assignment capabilities that might come in handy.
