Cross-reference page number style (MHRA)

Post by _YA »

I find NWP's cross-reference function very useful, but there is one thing that I don't think is possible right now.

In certain academic style guides (such as MHRA's downloadable from http://www.mhra.org.uk/Publications/Boo ... index.html ), numbers have to be expressed in the following fashion:
In expressing inclusive numbers falling within the same hundred, the last two figures should be given, including any zero in the penultimate position:
13–15, 44–47, 100–22, 104–08, 1933–39

As far as I can see, NWP's cross-reference function does not cover this, but I could be wrong.
It would be much appreciated if there is any way to make this possible.
If there is not, I hope NWP will cover this functionality as well.

You are right; the option to express inclusive numbers this way is not available yet.
In the MHRA style guide (p. 17) it says "cross-references within an article or book should be typed as triple zeros" (since they cannot be finalized until the text is typeset).
Will you submit your work as camera-ready copy?
If so, when the work is finalised and you are satisfied with the layout, you can convert the automatic inclusive numbers affected to fixed content by selecting them and applying the Tools:Automatic Content:Convert to Fixed Content menu and then manually deleting the unwanted digits.
