Is it possible to turn off the two-finger-zoom gesture on the trackpad just for NWP? I currently happen to zoom a lot when I really want to scroll.

You can solve you problem with BetterTouchTool.
In the Gestures section, Trackpad tab, add NWP as the target app and add the gestures Pinch In and Pinch Out with Predefined Action set to No Action.
