Problems with format of chapter title and numbering

Post by gemini0x4d »

Hi,

I'm currently "designing" a thesis template and I have some problems with the format of chapter headings. I created an appropriate list and a paragraph style, the numbering is already working correctly. However, I want to have a line break between the chapter number and the chapter title and I don't know how to accomplish this. I've attached an image, how it should look like in the end.

Maybe you can give me some advice?

Best regards,
gemini

Hi gemini, I see two solutions:

1. After the automatic list/chapter number, but before you type the chapter title, insert a soft return character. A soft return does not count as a paragraph break, but merely tells Nisus Writer to force a line wrap. The default way to insert a soft return is by pressing Shift + Return.

2. Have your styles enforce a very large first line indent. You can set the indent to be large enough so that it only leaves room for the automatic list/chapter number, forcing the actual chapter title to wrap to the next line. The only drawback is that if the indent is too permissive, then some small word from the chapter title may also fit on the first line (eg: the letter "A" from the title "A Chapter").

I'm attaching sample documents so you can see both of them. I hope this helps.
