Help!

Post by Jecks »

I am a novelist and have been using Nisus Pro for a couple of years. My needs are limited. I only want simple WP, but I need it integrated with Word so I can pass corrections and comments to my editor at the publisher.

BUT - today, in the middle of an edit, the whole thing went horribly wrong. I had "We have" in a sentence. I deleted space and "ha" to insert an apostrophe. As soon as I did:

1. the typing stopped. I got a yellowish bubble around the "Weve" but no apostrophe
2. when I tried "undo", it mentioned undo "smart quotes"
3. when I tried to continue, no typing would appear, but other lines well below this line would change appearance, letter by letter. An "e" would grow larger, as though it was on a different font line
4. when I used alt up arrow or down, the screen did not scroll with the text
5. when I carried on and tried to work with the text, I got occasional miniscule character sets appearing, a subscript effect or something.

This is driving me mad. I have no idea what I've done today, but I am already late on this deadline and cannot afford this. It's cost me four hours of work already today. Can anyone help?

Hello Jecks: I'm very sorry you had such a bad experience and lost valuable time. Hopefully we can help you.

First, I would recommend that you save a separate copy of your document in its current muddled state, just in case it becomes useful later. Then you should quit and relaunch Nisus Writer Pro (NWP). In many cases, if there had been some kind of temporary issue with layout, display, memory, etc, that would clear it up.

Afterwards, whether or not restarting NWP clears up the problem, please use the menu Help > Send Feedback and send us a report. Please enable diagnostic information and checkmark the option to "send console log". That is invaluable in diagnosing problems. Using the Help menu like this is the preferred way to get in touch about potential bugs.

Once we receive your report we can look at the logs, NWP and system version, and other relevant materials and make a recommendation. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for that. I've had the same problem occur today. I'd closed it and rebooted the computer which helped the first time around, but this time it didn't. I'm going through to see whether the desktop is doing the same thing, and will send a feedback note if I can. I really do not want to have to ditch Nisus, but I can only see that I'll have to buy Word again (spit, spit) ...

Thank you for the feedback report. Those really are the best way to get invaluable information to us in diagnosing any issues.

Well, I'm sorry the problem hit again. I've replied privately (via email) about some clues on this issue. Hopefully we can work together to get this solved.
