Trouble Pasting a Table Cell

Post by swalkerc »

Hi,

I'm trying to copy and paste a table cell in my document. Maybe there's any easier way of doing what I'm trying to do, but I want to create boxes around headers in my resume and make sure they're all the same size—copying and pasting a table cell seemed like the simplest solution, but I'm open to others.
At any rate, I've selected the table since it's just one cell and copy and pasted it, but all that pastes is the text. I've double checked to make sure I'm not just copying or just pasting the table contents by using the menus, but that hasn't solved the problem. I'm attaching an image of what I'm trying to copy in case someone knows of an easier way to achieve the same effect consistently throughout a document.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Sarah

Hello Sarah,

I'm sorry you've had trouble with this. It's actually a known issue that copy-pasting a single table cell will incorrectly lose the "table-ness" of the pasted content. We plan to get this fixed in the next product update. In the meantime there are two workarounds.

The first workaround is to make sure you copy not just the single cell from inside the table, but the full 1x1 table. The distinction is somewhat esoteric and is best shown with some screenshots:

The bug only occurs if you copy the cell from inside the table, ie: when the square blue table resize handles are showing.

Another solution is to avoid tables altogether and use paragraph borders instead. I'd actually recommend this approach, since it's a more direct way to accomplish the same thing. It also lets you control the look of your header boxes using your paragraph styles (eg: Heading 1). You can control the look of these borders using the Paragraph Borders palette. I'll attach a sample document.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks! The paragraph borders is brilliant. I didn't even know such a thing existed and it is a much simpler approach.

Thanks again for the help!!
