"General input/output" error-- .doc files as digital soup

Since upgrading my NIsus Writer Pro (Mac OS X 10.9.5), I find that some .doc files open as a digital mess. The file opens in Word or Neo Office ok, but when I try to re-save I get the "general input/output error"message. I can get around this by saving as .rtf, but after years of trouble-free use of Nisus Writer Pro, this is inconvenient and annoying . . . actually, tempting to abandon Nisus, despite all the nice features.

That is caused by a bug which wrongly checks the 'Ignore Rich Text Commands' box in the Open dialog for some files. The bug has been reported and should be fixed. Normally, by default, that box should be unchecked.
In the meantime, in the Open dialog, uncheck the 'Ignore Rich Text Commands' box if you find that it is checked.

Hamid, that box is not checked-- but I still run into this problem.

(I'm glad to hear that this defect involves a known bug and will be repaired . . . but in the meantime, unchecking this in the Open dialogue isn't any help.)

Hamid, my thanks and apologies-- I now understand that only in certain files is that box checked-- you are right, and this takes care of it.

(I tend to act to soon, like Quixote, rather than delaying like Hamlet. The happy medium hard to attain.)

If you need it, we just released a public beta of Pro 2.1.1 that should fix the mistaken check-marking of the "Ignore Rich Text Commands" option. You can download the Pro 2.1.1 beta here. The beta should be relatively stable, since the number of changes is small and focussed, but all the usual warnings about running beta software apply. We expect to have a proper release soon enough.
