Hello Val,
Your question is not quite clear. Are you using MS Word, but you can’t open emailed docx attachments that somebody sent to you? Or are you trying to use Nisus Writer Pro (NWP) to open these attachments because you don’t have Word?
NWP can open files saved in the docx format, but shapes and text boxes will be missing. NWP does a much better job when opening Rich Text Files that were created in Word.
Here is what you can do:
Right-click on the files in Finder and select “Open With”. This will show you applications on your computer that can potentially open docx files.
Pages (5.6.2) can open docx files and shapes and text boxes are displayed correctly.
Preview and
TextEdit can also open docx files, albeit with some limitations (shapes are missing; the text in text boxes is rendered correctly, but the box itself is missing.)
LibreOffice is outstanding when it comes to converting Word files. I was able to open old Word 5.0 files from 1992 in LibreOffice with all formatting attributes intact. MS Word 2011 was unable to open these files!
If you don’t have Pages and don’t want to install any new software, take a look at this:
