grammar/punctuation check

does this program have a spell checker that also does punctuation and grammar like Word does? not liking the pages/Iworks.

Hello- you should find an answer in your first thread. But to summarize, Nisus Writer (Pro and Express) has a spell checker, but no grammar checker.

Isn't this feature standard in the Mac, starting from Leopard?

Yes, as of Leopard, OSX does provide a grammar checker as part of the Apple text system. The issue is that Nisus Writer has highly customized that process, replacing not only the GUI (spelling panel), but also augmenting the whole process. The most significant change was backgrounding spell checking; you might notice that TextEdit only marks (red-squiggly-underlines) words that you've selected. Nisus Writer checks the spelling of your whole document while you work. This all complicates the matter of supporting the system grammar checker.

So while hooking Nisus Writer into OSX's grammar checker is on our "to do" list, any users that feel this is an important feature, please let us know.

A grammar checker is indeed a "must have" for me. I was excited that the latest Pages had a built-in grammar checker, but then when I started using the program, I found out that many functions that existed in Pages 09 were no longer available. This led me to reevaluate Nisus Writer Pro, which I had purchased earlier last year. I have been able to do most of the things that I want to do with Nisus Writer Pro, but the lack of the grammar checker is almost a show stopper. If you do not have a grammar checker, do you know of any program that works with Nisus that will allow grammar checking to be seamless? Any recommendations, or comments. My language preference is US English. Thanks, Paul

I would also greatly appreciate a grammar speller, as a writer typos that are not detected by Nisus right now are hard to spot with the eyes.
