Stale Content: Bullet List

Post by MSNELL »

Apologies as I'm sure this is in the manual somewhere, but didn't appear in my search.

I'm wondering why my bullet lists are becoming "stale content" continuously as I write (and copy/paste within document). Bullet points replaced with "[auto]". I've figured out how to go to TOOL menu and update, but this happens seemingly every 2 min. I tried un-checking the "highlight stale" option, but that doesn't seem to really fix the problem.

What exactly is the definition of "stale content" ? What can I do with formatting my lists so they do not become stale?

Thanks.

Thanks for your questions Matt. The short answer is that list bullets (and other list items) should never display as stale text or show using the [auto] placeholder. That generally indicates a temporary internal problem. It's an issue we've seen sporadically and it's on our list of issues to keep an eye on, to see what we can do to improve things.

The good news is that it's a transitory problem. It does not indicate a problem with your document. If you close and reopen your file (or at worst quit and relaunch the app), you should see that your list items are again updating correctly.

I hope that helps explain the situation, and I'm sorry for the nuisance. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions, or if your troubles aren't resolved after reopening your file and/or relaunching the app. The latter situation would actually be helpful to us, because it might pinpoint a reproducible scenario that can help us diagnose the underlying issue.

Thanks Martin.

It usually seems to go away on its own after a few minutes, and then return, repeat. But certainly it does not appear upon first opening a document (or opening application). Usually appears after a cut or copy & paste (sometimes across separate documents) into lists. (another note: some of my documents originated in Bean Application years ago, and are now being used with NWP as default).

I thought maybe I was using a font that NWP didn't like, or didn't agree with bullets or something strange like that.
