In Nisus Writer terminology things like font, color, underline, etc, are all "attributes". A "style" is something that defines a set of attributes. For instance, the default "Heading 1" style defines the attributes "bold", "Tohoma font", and "font size: 14 pt". You could paste text from another application that was bolded 14pt Tahoma, but it would not necessarily have a proper Heading style applied.
Thus, as Craig was explaining, you might not receive the dialog alerting you to style conflicts. Not only because the content you are pasting might not have any styles applied, but also because it might have named them differently.
