I just downloaded the software, started writing and can't find any alignment button? Is there a secret hiding place for it?

Open the tools sidebar on the right. Click on the "T" at the top. See the alignment (justification) buttons under Paragraph.

There is also the menu Format > Paragraph Alignment.
