Hide highlights?

Post by Phrasikleia »

Is there any way to turn text highlighting on and off without losing the highlighting?

I could get some great use out of this feature, but would like to be able to hide the highlighting (which is distracting) and then bring it back at will when I'm ready to deal with the highlighted text. I see myself using the highlighting to flag areas of text that need revision or further research, but don't want the distraction of seeing the highlighting while I'm working on other parts of the text in my document.

I know Word 2004 has the option in its preferences to hide highlighting, but don't see anything similar in the prefs for NWP.

There's no built-in option for this. If the highlighting is all applied by you then I might suggest the use of a character style. Create a new style that defines the highlighting attribute. When you want to hide the highlighting simply remove that attribute from the style definition. It's not ideal, but the only thing I can think of right now.

Good workaround, thanks

I actually had not thought of that workaround. It's less than elegant as a solution, but should be suitable for my needs. I don't see a feature request thread for NWP, so please consider this a request for some way to toggle the highlighting on and off.
