Lag typing with Tiger

I've seen posts related to a typing lag with Leopard, but I'm using Tiger (10.4.11 on an iBook G4). I downloaded the demo version of Nisus Writer Pro and was excited to try it out. I am trying to edit a document (11 pages, minimal footnotes, no snazzy formatting) and there's a significant lag while I'm typing. I can open up Pages and Word 2004 and edit the same document with absolutely no lag. Any ideas?
