Something missing from cross-references

Post by ptram »

Hi,

Something I miss in the cross-reference system:

- In the "Insert Reference to" pop-up menu, I would like to see a "Paragraph" item. When you select it, you are given the opportunity of choosing a paragraph style, and then the list of all paragraphs with that style appear in the list below.

Only the first line of all paragraphs will appear, to avoid choosing a style like "Normal" or "Indented" to end up with a huge amount of text in the list. It would be nice if Nisus Writer could automatically select the first token of text, before a dot, hard return or tabulator (for cases of explanation of options, or run-in headers, where the title text or the heading runs in the same line with the explanation or subsequent paragraph).

- I would like to see a list of all inserted cross-references, or at least of being able to find (and replace) them. This is mandatory for debugging a text with several broken or outdated cross-references.

- Being able to edit a cross-reference would be nice both in case you want to change it, without having to delete it and inserting it again; but it would also be great when you have something like this:

see "Title" on page 432.

In this case, you could just copy the first reference ("Title") and paste it after "on page", and edit it so that the Display Text is no longer the bookmark or paragraph text, but the page number.

- Automatically adding automatic variables before a cross-reference would be very handy, when editing or translating something like "see 'Reference' on page 3".

- Also, composite reference formula like the above would be handy.

- Cross-references could have their own character style; it is typical of technical books having them in a stronger text.

Best regards,
Paolo

I understand this can already be done in a way that might be even better than in my request, just by turning on the display of the bookmarked and cross-reference text. Instead of looking at them in a seprate Find window, you can see them in technicolor buy just scrolling though the document.
