Since the the last system update the help menu has become very useful to spot macros whose names or abbreviations one may have forgotten.
Is it possible to open the Help Menu from the keyboard?
Opening the Help menu from the keyboard?
Re: Opening the Help menu from the keyboard?
That's shift-command-/. You can change the shortcut in Keyboard & Mouse System Pref pane.

It works fine, thank you. How can this shortcut be known?Kino wrote:That's shift-command-/. You can change the shortcut in Keyboard & Mouse System Pref pane.
But I did not succeed in changing it in the system prefs. Is this not because "Help" is not a menu item but a title?

Re: Opening the Help menu from the keyboard?
If you look at the menu it shows as Command + "?" . Now think about how you type a "?". On my keyboard (US English layout) one presses Shift and the key marked "/". So the full shortcut must then be Command + Shift + the key marked "/".js wrote:It works fine, thank you. How can this shortcut be known?Kino wrote:That's shift-command-/. You'll want to go through the Menu Key preferences inside Nisus Writer, not the system preferences. But I did not succeed in changing it in the system prefs. Is this not because "Help" is not a menu item but a title?
Re: Opening the Help menu from the keyboard?
I think what js meant is not Nisus Writer Pro Help but the search field supplied by Leopard as an item of Help menu. What you have to change in the Keyboard Shortcuts tab of the Keyboard & Mouse System Pref is the shortcut for Show Help menu. This command seems to be a full keyboard access command (or what used to be called so) and not directly associated with the search field. But when the Help menu opens, the focus is put in it. So it works.
Also this means that Leopard hijacked the shortcut for Nisus Writer Pro Help. Perhaps it would be better to change the default shortcut for it.

I looked at the System Pref pane above mentioned. That is the first place to go when you want to know system-wide shortcuts. How can this shortcut be known?

This is in deed what I meant. I had overlooked it because I did not expect to find this command on the highest level, in front of my eyes. I didn't think of the Spotlight help field. Thanks for clearing that up Kino.
