Opening a document in arabic on Mac
Opening a document in arabic on Mac
Hi!
I am currently taking an arabic course, and I bought Nisus Pro to be able to open course documents with my mac computer (since the word version in mac can´t).
However, I tried to download the file, and the document opens, but without the arabic text in it - only the parts written in latin script shows. What do I do??
I am really desperate since I need to send in the work to for my course, but I can´t even see half of what the test consists of...!
Thank you, I really appreciate some answers =)

Re: Opening a document in arabic on Mac
Can you zip a sample file of the original document and post it here?

I don´t know how to do it, but I posted the link above - although I don´t know if you´ll get in since you prob have to log on to access it...

1. Select the icon of the file in the Finder.teardrops wrote: How do I zip it?
2. Right-click or Control-click.
3. Apply the drop-down menu "Compress finlename" (where filename is the actual name of your sample file).

Re: Opening a document in arabic on Mac
We cannot download those documents because we don’t have username and password. Anyway, most likely there would be a copyright issue in your posting them to this forum as attachments. However, I think there would be no problem for your sending one of them to Nisus Soft so that they can identify and, hopefully, solve the problem because none of Nisus people seems to be eager to learn Arabic ;-) I may be wrong, though ;-)))
1. Help > Feedback…
2. Make sure that Send a document is checked;
3. Hit Select File… and locate one of those document;
4. Hit Send Feedback

Yes, please do as Kino suggests and send us one of these files via the feedback reporter if you can.

Re: Opening a document in arabic on Mac
In working privately with Eva, we've been able to resolve her problem.
There was no trouble with importing the Arabic text itself, but rather something was amiss with the applied fonts. Instead of showing the Arabic text, the font displayed absolutely nothing. Under normal circumstances this should be impossible; if a file uses a font you don't have, or the font does not contain the characters it is applied to, OSX/NWP will choose a fallback font that can display those characters (or at least placeholders). Eva's computer did not do this.
In the end we got it working, after cleaning some OSX font caches, and reinstalling some fonts. Hopefully she is all set for her Arabic course.

It was a Microsoft ".doc" file.
