document formats

Post by tlw55 »

In my preferences I have "word document" listed as my default format (I share docs with a bunch of Word users), but when I save documents the default is rtf and I have to change it to .doc--shouldn't the preference set up govern how documents are actually saved? Or is this a bug?

That default only applies to new documents. If you open an existing document, resaving that file (eg: via Save As) will default to the same file format as the original document.

Does that explain the behavior you're seeing, or is something else going on here?

I am using a few basic templates that I have created in NWP. Therefore they are not strictly speaking "new documents" but are new docs based on an existing template. So I gather that the preference setting (Word document) does not override the template's default format (rtf). Or is there a work around?

Ah, thank you for the extra information. It does look like creating a new document from a template file does not trigger NWP to use the default file format chosen in the preferences. I'm not sure if this is a bug or an oversight, but we'll look into correcting it. Thank you!
