opening a doc file - content missing

I've been sent a doc file, opened it with NWP 1.4.2 and responded to the sender that part of the document was missing. No it's not, she said, so I sent the file to Zamzar for conversion to pdf and lo! the missing text mysteriously appeared in the pdf.

Has anyone else had this problem? A bit worrying if people send me files and I don't realise part of the doc is missing!
