Vertical alignment of text

I would like to align text in the left-most column of a table vertically. Is there a way to do that?

If so, I’m afraid you can’t. But you can do as I did. Just hit return after each character.

If you make the column wide enough to fit just one character, the text will align vertically without you having to add Returns after each character.

You’re welcome.
By the way, if you select the text and change line spacing (from paragraph palette), you can make the space between characters wider or narrower. This is kind of like a vertical kerning.

Thanks, Hamid and Henry. Unfortunately, to do what I wanted to do it turned out that I needed two columns of text for each row. With variable width characters the text was more a jumble than meaningful text.

I've resorted to OpenOffice's spreadsheet application, Calc, which does make provision for realignment of text in cells.
