Include default black font color in style definition

Post by ChuckKenter »

I am unable to include basic black (Licorice crayon) the definition of a paragraph style. When I pick any other color the oval "button" for it appears in the style definition. But when I choose Licorice the button disappears).

Here is why I want to do this. I write in Scrivener and export to Nisus. In Scrivener I define presets for a few basic styles and give each of them a bright text color (Red for Heading 1, Blue for Heading 2, Green for Block quote, etc.). Then, when I export to Nisus I can quickly scroll through the text, see the colored text, and know I have to assign that paragraph the appropriate style. However, since I can't include font color in the style definition I then have to select the whole ¶ and manually change its color to black. This shouldn't be necessary.

Ideally I would like a macro that would automatically change any ¶ with red text to Heading 1 (with black text), etc. but I don't know how to do this. The bright colors work ok.

First let me say that I agree with your basic point: NWP should really allow users to define black as a color.

But now a question about the procedure as you describe it. Why do you "scroll through" your document? You should be able to just use the Select All (with color) feature. If you place your cursor in a section with an applied color, the status bar at the bottom of the window should provide you with a colored circle. This will provide a menu with the option to "Select all", you can then easily apply the style and remove the color. Alternately, after you have applied the styles, you can select the whole document and do remove color then.

And for another solution consider using Kino's famous "Select" macro. http://www.nisus.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 385#p19385

But in case you want to continue doing it your way, you can define a style with color black like this:
  • Switch to Style window and define a style (let's call it "Anti-color")
  • Give the "Anti-color" style a color of your choice -- it doesn't matter which
  • Now switch to the style definition of your choice
  • Choose "Anti-color" as the "based on" style
  • Give your style the color black
