Two different left indents

Hello together,

I want to create a document which is formatted like the example attached. How do I have to set the indents and the tabs? AAA, BBB, CCC, ... should be paragraphs with additional paragraph spacing. Inside AAA, BBB, CCC, ... there are soft returns. My problem is, that I have two different left indents.

Thanks for help
Ulrich

Paragraphs with multiple indents using soft-returns is a MS Word thing. Real word processors don't do that.
I would use styles related with "Next Style" and use proper returns instead.

NB: You can use an "out-dent" containing tab-stop, so that the first line has tab-aligned things "in the margin" and then still has an out-dent. But this will only work for the first line. So the type of formatting that you are showing can be done with one ruler: Have the left-wrap where you want it for the wrapped paragraphs and put a tab in the out-dent. Then use real returns. The paragraphs without the "AAA" etc. will need a tab first. Or you can make two rulers/paragraph styles: one with the longer out-dent, and one with the shorter one.

Thanks, Philip,

yes, of course this is a solution. But it is not very elegant. I hoped, that something more sophisticated exists. Your solution destroys the logical structure of my document, because I loose the exclusive paragraphs AAA, BBB... (which will be the main entries in a dictionary). So I prefer to abstain from the second line indents of the subentries. (The final formatting will be probably quite different, I wanted only during my work in progress to see things clearer and more structered on the screen).

Anyway, i know, if you have no better solution, nobody will have.
Thanks for thinking about my problem

Then you make 2 paragraph styles: one for the AAA paragraphs as phspaelti pointed out; the other having the outdent where the tab stop is in the first and the margin in the same place as in the first. Your entries above 2 all seem to have the same structure, so you use style 2 for all of them and you can use soft returns there. But you're not going to achieve it with soft returns from one style like style 1 without using tabs to achieve the alignment you desire.

That is unless Martin knows better ...

I think everyone has already covered the available options nicely– no extra solutions in sight I'm afraid.

Actually I need to do something like this sometimes, so I use soft returns which can be very useful...

Use a style, put appropriate tabs (NWP has 4 types) at each indent point (so double the number) and use soft returns - very useful. This means that if your second line content is shorter than the tab interval, you'll need to put an extra tab in the content, but apart from that...

Here's an example and the file is attached...
