When I have text that follows a bullet the line jumps down a line from the bullet .
Any idea what causes this? See the example. Never saw this behavior before last OS X update.

I assume the only character between the bullet and the following text is a tab, and that you don’t have anything unusual in your list or paragraph styles.
That being so, I think this is a bug peculiar to having the first word of a list item so long that it would (if it could) extend beyond the right margin, at the prevailing font, size and margin settings.
If your list item text string is in fact as long as you suggest, normal behavior should result if you insert a hyphen in a judiciously chosen spot within the first line.
The bug should be fixed, though, if only to please Welsh rail enthusiasts compiling a list of station names.
