Select text and count words in all comments

Your comments can store all kinds of text, from one-word place holders, simple task reminders and temporary storage areas for additional text and/or graphics to be added to your document to entire chapters. You can check the statistics (word count, etc.) in your comments, but you need to select the text in the comment windoid to do so.

1. Click your insertion point in the comment you want to check.

2. Select the text you want to check.

The Info portion of the Status Bar and the Statistics palette indicate the count in the selection.

If you want to get a count of all the text in all your comments you need to select them all first.

1. Click your insertion point in any comment.

2. Choose the menu command: Edit > Select All.

3. Choose the menu command: Edit > Select All.

Choosing the same menu command (Select All) twice selects all the text in all the comments.

In addition to the Info portion of the Status Bar, the Statistics palette indicates the count in the selection, you can the copy all that content and paste it elsewhere.

Click the Info portion of the Status Bar and choose Copy from the menu that appears.

Click the “” (Ellipsis, or Options menu) in the upper right corner of the Statistics palette and choose Copy.

If you want to put the text from your tracked changes in a new document, the tools for that are explained in the section: “Export comments below”.
