G'day, Peter et al
In the absence of any reply from Nisus, I think we can assume that something very serious is amiss. At the most optimistic end of the list of possibilities, they're busy doing a port of Nisus Writer to iOS. But I seem to recall that this was expressly ruled out some time ago, and in any case one might expect some reassuring words on these forums. Even in the most pessimistic scenario of serious illness or death, I would have thought someone would have conveyed a message to us somehow.
Once again, I wish those at Nisus well, but I suggest it is time we now wound up this topic in this present forum and moved discussion about the future to the Contingency thread I commenced recently on The Blank Page forum.
Cheers,
Adrian

As a long term Scrivener and NWP user, to me they are complementary not rival products. I have tried to promote NWP to Mac-users for post-processing Scrivener-compiled text; my own workflow is to use Scrivener styles as mark-up for formatting in NWP through a macro. But have found that the usual response is that after a quick look, people would rather stick to Word/LibreOffice.
I don't think Scrivener can have taken too many sales from NWP; it's persuading people that there is life outside Word and DOCX that is the problem. Even pointing out that compiling to RTF and opening that in Word — leave alone the benefits of using NWP — solves reported formatting problems often falls on apparently deaf ears, as if "If it's not DOCX, it's not up-to-scratch".
As for the future of Nisus, I can only wait till something is made public; I am not one to speculate.

I discovered some partial answers from Martin's LinkedIn page <https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-wierschin-a868526/>
In January 2021, Martin became a full-time developer for a software company in San Diego called SpeedTrack. Apparently he continued working for Nisus part-time.
In November 2024 Martin began working full-time for Apple in San Diego! That's when he released the last update for NWP and disappeared from this forum.
I have an email address for Mark Hurvitz from 2022. I don’t know whether he's still around, but I just emailed him asking if he'd be willing to grant forum admin privileges to some of the long-time users so we can create an archive of the forum and/or fix the search bug. I'll report back if Mark responds.

Wow, what a shame. I've basically moved over to Mellel, but it's a shame to see Nisus go, if that's what is happening. I've been using it since 1989-90. For the kind of writing I do -- scholar research publications with tons of figures and references -- Nisus and Mellel are the only game in town. Sure, Word can to it, I guess, but I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than use Word. Pages can't handle this type of work. I tried Scrivener. Maybe it can do it, but it felt like building a Large Hadron super-collider each time I tried to write a paper. (Maybe a novel would feel better.)
