Extract Text from an Image (OCR)

Nisus Writer may be able to use optical character recognition (OCR) to detect and extract text from an image. This option is useful if you have a photo or scan of a paper document. Depending on the image it may be possible to extract proper editable text.

To extract text from an image:

1. Select the image by clicking on it, as shown in Figure 185.

2. Use the menu Insert > Image > Extract Text From Image.

This command is also available from the contextual menu, if you right-click the image.

Text extracted in this way never includes formatting and the quality may be poor. If you’re working in a language other than English, it may help to first mark the image in the appropriate language.

This technique requires the machine learning and vision capabilities of macOS. The extraction results may vary on different versions of the system. This command requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later.
